EMBRACING SIMPLICITY: HABITS TO SIMPLIFY YOUR LIFE AND FIND CONTENTMENT

Spread the love

Embrace the power of simplicity to live a more fulfilled life. Simplify your life with these easy habits.

Are you feeling overwhelmed with your busy schedule? Do you find yourself constantly juggling tasks and struggling to find moments of peace? If you find yourself nodding in agreement, it’s a signal, a subtle nudge from within to hit the reset button on certain habits.

The goal? A simpler life.

But what is a complicated life?

For me, complicated life is directionless, seems messy, and there is no sufficient time for myself or what adds joy to my life.

It is when you hear the whispers from within that this is not the life you want. It is when you are pursuing things not aligned with your life goals.

If you’ve been feeling like this, take a moment to breathe and sit with yourself. Be your own mentor, and figure out what is complicating your life?

Often, it’s our habits that become the obstacle to living a simple and fulfilled life. So, I want to encourage you to build habits that will help simplify your life. Simplicity is not about deprivation; it’s about shedding the unnecessary to make room for the extraordinary.

Simplicity doesn’t equate to a lack of ambition or drive; instead, it’s a guiding principle that helps you cut through the noise, focus on what truly matters, and channel your energy efficiently.

For me, a simple life is one in which I can go back to bed at night with the feeling of contentment. It is when I work towards my goals and ambitions and still find some me-time for my hobbies. It is when I don’t always have to sacrifice being with my loved ones. To put it simply, it is having a balanced life.

How to Simplify Your Life

1. Take control of your life.

I believe that simplicity begins with taking control of your life. If you don’t take charge of your own life decisions, others will take them for you, whether you like it or not. So, what I try to do is set clear goals, make intentional decisions, and be proactive in shaping my future.

By taking responsibility for my choices, I feel empowered to create a life that aligns with my values and aspirations.

2. Learn to Say No

Have you ever felt like you’re always saying “yes” to everything, even if it’s not what you really want? It’s called the ‘Nice-Girl Syndrome’ and can be a tough cycle to break. But trust me when I say that establishing boundaries is a powerful way to help you transform from a perpetual “yes-woman” to someone who values herself enough to say “no” when necessary.

It’s a shift that can truly change your life for the better.

Yes, it’s transformative, but not simple. You may feel guilty at first, but you need to get used to this feeling of guilt, which is for your wellbeing.

It’s not about forsaking kindness but about finding a harmonious balance that allows for kindness without compromising personal well-being.

3. Say Yes to Self-Care

Self-care is not a luxury; it’s a necessity for a simplified life. I encourage you to cultivate the habit of practicing self-care every day.

It’s all about treating yourself with the same love and attention you readily give to others. Start small, like savouring your favourite tea or taking a leisurely stroll.

Remember, self-care isn’t selfish; it’s like putting on your oxygen mask before helping others on that proverbial flight of life. So, make a pact with yourself to sprinkle self-care throughout your day.

Learn to say yes to self-care every day.

4. Give up the habit of complaining.
Liberated from complains

It’s actually liberating to free yourself of complains. I suggest you to monitor your conversations with others and with yourself. How much of is it is to complain? Does complaining make the situation better?

Complaining, it turns out, is like inviting unnecessary negativity into our lives. Shifting our focus to finding solutions makes life simpler and does this cool thing that attracts positive vibes like a magnet. It’s like turning on a positivity beacon that beams good energy into our world.

5. Give up being affected by other people

My game-changing life mantra was: “Other people’s actions are not in your control, but how you respond is.”

Some years ago, in my early 20s, I would be easily affected by trivial things, basically by someone else’s actions. But when I realised if these things aren’t in my control, why waste my precious time and energy on them?

So, quit getting affected by what others have to say about you. As long as you are true to yourself, don’t be bothered by someone else’s unsolicited opinions.

Few Actionable Habits to Simplify Your Life

1 . Plan Your Meals

Make it a habit to plan your meals in advance. When you plan your meals, you’re basically eliminating the daily “food debate” in your head. It’s a time-saver!

Plus, it’s a strategic move against the temptation of ordering takeout. Who needs food-related indecision when there’s a world of delicious possibilities to explore?

Also, plan your food timings along with the menu. That’s a way you can simplify your day.

2. Create and follow a routine

Have you ever noticed that when routines are missing, your house is doing the cha-cha with chaos?

Once routines become habits, your mind gets a breather. It’s like having a personal assistant that takes care of the daily grind, freeing up mental space for more exciting things.

Here’s my guide to building a simple daily routine.

3. Set monthly goals

Embrace a monthly challenge by setting fresh goals – it could be completing a captivating book, boosting your veggie intake, or ensuring you prioritize your well-being with a routine check-up. These aren’t mere to-do items but purposeful aims harmonizing with your larger life goals.

Monthly goals, acting as guideposts, will simplify the complexity of daily decisions. By embracing monthly goals, you carve out time for what truly matters, sidestepping the chaos of endless to-do lists.

4. Practise decluttering daily

Take a few moments each day to declutter and organize your space. When your home is simplified, it’s like giving your life a makeover.

It’s not just about aesthetics; a decluttered home is a game-changer for your mental space. Imagine the joy of having a clear mind and a clear living space – it’s a double win.

To avoid overwork, you can divide the chores among the family members. This way, the responsibilities are shared, ensuring that no one person bears the brunt of the workload.

Here is how you can get started with decluttering.

5. Manage your finances

Financial stress can take a heavy toll on your overall wellbeing in life. You can start by planning your expenses and payment dues.

Try and Develop a realistic budget that outlines your income, fixed expenses (like rent, utilities), variable expenses (groceries, entertainment), and savings goals. This provides a clear overview of your financial situation.

6. Manage your digital time

Let’s make it a conscious habit to detach from the digital world. It is true that the world is at our fingertips 24/7, and technology has made our lives easier.

But here’s the thing: amidst this digital overload, this gem of a habit can truly simplify life.

Disconnecting doesn’t mean missing out; it means giving yourself the gift of uninterrupted moments. Create a bedtime ritual free of screens.

It is essential to create boundaries with technology and not let it invade your lives.

Did you know that in 2016, France enacted a Right to Disconnect law that prohibits employers from requiring their employees to participate in work-related activities beyond regular office hours? This legislation serves as a safeguard to promote a healthy work-life balance, ensuring that employees have dedicated time for personal pursuits and growth.

7. Mindful Consumption

Tackling impulsive purchases can significantly simplify life. Begin by crafting a shopping list before venturing out or surfing online. Stick to this list diligently, focusing on genuine needs.

Implement a cooling-off period—wait a day or two before giving in to an impulse. This delay often unveils the non-urgent nature of the desire, fostering more rational decisions. Establishing a budget for non-essential expenses provides a structured framework for spending and encourages thoughtful choices.

Shop with intent, steering clear of aimless wandering that often leads to unnecessary acquisitions

8. Practice Gratitude

Rhonda Byrne, in her book “The Magic,” beautifully explores the magnetic power of gratitude. By practising gratitude, we intentionally shift our focus from what we lack to the simple pleasures present in our lives. It’s like tuning into the positive frequency of the universe, where acknowledging and appreciating the goodness around us attracts more positivity.

Cultivating the habit of being grateful is the easiest and simplest habit you can adopt to simplify your life. If counting your problems can complicate your life, spend a moment or two each day counting your blessings.

9. Start Journaling

Ever tried journaling? It’s like stepping back and seeing the big picture of your life. Putting pen to paper is not just about the day-to-day stuff; it’s like zooming out to capture the whole scene.

You start noticing patterns, connecting the dots between your experiences. It’s kinda like having a chat with yourself, reflecting on what’s going on beyond the surface.

So, try putting your thoughts into words and experience its power to simplify your life.

Here are: 35 journaling prompts for self-reflection

10. Stop multitasking

Contrary to popular belief, multitasking often leads to inefficiency and increased stress. I used to be sceptical, thinking it’d slow me down, but surprise, it’s a game-changer. When you give a task your full attention, it’s like magic. Things get done smoother, and the stress? Way less.

Now, I make a point of finishing one thing before moving on to the next. It’s not just about efficiency; it’s about doing things well.

Next time you catch yourself multitasking, take a step back. Try focusing on one task; you might find it’s the secret sauce to simplifying your day.

My idea of a simple life

So, dear reader, if you aim to simplify your life, cultivating these habits will definitely help you get started.
